As the program web site explains, “Alaska affords family-medicine residents with diverse challenges that contribute to the depth of our unique program. Our intensive rural training opportunities are situated in some of the most challenging and interesting medical sites within the United States.”
Despite its relative small size, Anchorage features over 100 miles of bike and lighted ski trails within the city limits. Outdoor activities are minutes
away. World-class outdoor recreational opportunities include cross-country and downhill skiing, hiking, biking, fresh and salt-water fishing, kayaking, boating, wind surfing, climbing, hunting, and dog-mushing.
Anchorage also leads the state in entertainment opportunities including
dining, theater, nightclubs, opera, symphony, and art. Anchorage’s central
location places it within relative close proximity to most of the state’s
major tourism attractions. Numerous national parks and wildlife preserves are all within close driving and flying distance, making Anchorage an ideal take-off point forwilderness excursions. |
